Snow before Halloween

November 3, 2011

It is cold here. I am not sure what is going on in downtown New York City, but I have the feeling that the protestors in Zucotti Park are feeling battle tested.  I hope their spirits are high.  Snow before Halloween is almost unheard of here.  These are the days of beauty and sunlight and the marching of children from store to store with their plastic jack o lanterns or plastic grocery store bags.  Am I nostalgia for last year at this time–not really.  Just watching a difficult winter come faster and our desire for change morph with a velocity unheard of five years ago, much less ten.  The artists and thinkers and activists who make up Black Earth Institute are part of that rapid change.  It will be interesting to see how this new conversation  about enormous changes at the last minute (yes I miss Grace Paley–she would love the Occupy Wall Street actions) advances.  I am pleased to be a part of it.
